AWK Prize For Outstanding Project is an initiative to provide monetary prize to students of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University who have created great technology project that solves a specific problem. It does not reward great grades, the members of the selection committee would be seeking to help students who actually know their stuff and work on real problems.
Who can apply?
All students of 2nd-year / 3rd-year B.Tech Computer Engineering students are eligible. This means students at Semesters 3, 4, 5 and 6 can apply. The award can be given anytime during this time and at any stage of their college life.
What is the prize?
For individuals award will be a sum of Rs. 2,000 and for groups we will have max Rs. 5,000 as prize money. Also successful applicants and runners up could be be offered internships if the university permits. (Need help from Dr. AWK.)
What does the selection committee look like?
Head of Department (Computer Engineering), Prof. Darade, Other members of the faculty, Dr. Arvind W. Kiwelekar (Jury Advisor) and some prominent industry people (may vary from year to year).
How does the prize get funded?
We are a committee of 7 members that fund this award amount through the college accounts and or our own separate account.
What is the background of the prize?
AWK Prize was started in 2017 by a bunch of friends who decided to give back to their university in their own way. It was initially named, “AWK Prize For Best Bachelor Thesis.” We wanted to help students working on technology projects and who wanted money for running basic tests. In 2020 (April), the prize was rebranded as we wanted to work with students who are in 2nd and 3rd years rather than when they are in the last semester.
Who is Dr. Arvind W. Kiwelekar (AWK) ?
AWK is one of the best people we knew at DBATU and was the head of Computer Engineering Department in our time and still is. He is an excellent teacher and administrator. Also very good with puns.
